The Temple of Heaven has two ticket types — a park entry and a through-ticket (联票) that includes the three main monuments. Most visitors need the through-ticket.

Why choosing is confusing
The Temple of Heaven (天坛) has a misleading pricing structure. The cheap "park entry" ticket (¥15 peak) only gets you into the outer park — you cannot enter the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests (祈年殿), the Echo Wall (回音壁), or the Circular Mound Altar (圜丘), which are the entire reason to visit. The through-ticket (联票, ¥34 peak) includes all three. The ¥19 price difference is one of the best-value upgrades in Beijing tourism.

Buy the through-ticket (联票, ¥34 peak / ¥28 off-season). The park-only ticket will leave you staring at locked gates. Book at least 1–3 days in advance via official channels. Enter at the East Gate (metro Line 5, Tiantan Dongmen Station).

Can I buy the through-ticket at the gate?+
On weekdays with low demand, sometimes. On weekends and holidays, the through-ticket often sells out in advance. Always book ahead to be safe.
What gate should I enter from?+
East Gate (Tiantan Dongmen, metro Line 5) is the most convenient. Enter there and walk south along the central axis.
Is the Echo Wall really "echo"?+
In theory yes, but in practice the wall is usually too crowded for the echo effect to work. Still worth seeing for the architecture.
