How to Send a Package in China: Express Delivery Guide for Foreigners
China has the world's largest express delivery market, with billions of packages shipped annually. Sending a package is fast, affordable, and convenient. Here's how to do it as a foreigner.
ID Requirements
By law, all shipments require real-name registration. Valid IDs for foreigners:
- Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card
- Passport
- Entry-Exit Permit
- Visa document acceptance receipt (from public security)
- Provisional international travel documents (from embassies/consulates)
How to Send a Package
- Place an order — Use the courier's app, WeChat, or Mini-program
- Fill in details — Sender/recipient addresses, contact info, item description
- Choose pickup: Door-to-door pickup or outlet self-delivery
- Show your ID — Present valid identification
- Pay — WeChat, Alipay, or cash
- Track — Use the tracking number to monitor delivery

Prohibited Items
- Weapons, ammunition, explosives
- Flammable and explosive materials
- Drugs and toxic substances
- Radioactive and corrosive materials
- Illegal publications or materials endangering national security
- Counterfeit currency or certificates
- Endangered animals, plants, and products
- Tobacco and alcohol (restricted)
- Valuable items (artworks, antiques, precious metals)
Additional Restrictions
Courier companies may also refuse items that lack complete contact info, are improperly packaged, could be hazardous, or are impractical to deliver.
