2. Confusing Jinshanling with Gubeikou Great Wall. Gubeikou is a separate, even wilder section. The S5 train takes you to Gubeikou town, which is close to both — confirm your driver is taking you to Jinshanling (金山岭), not Gubeikou (古北口长城).

3. Not planning the return. The last train from Gubeikou is at 17:20. If you're still on the wall at 16:30, you will likely miss it. Set an alarm.

4. Wearing sneakers or sandals. Jinshanling has uneven, crumbling steps and steep sections. Hiking shoes or trail runners are strongly recommended.
