How to Get from Chengdu to Dujiangyan by Train & Public Transport (2026)
Quick Answer
Take the metro to Xipu Station (犀浦站), then a direct intercity train to Lidui Park Station (离堆公园站) — 23 minutes, ¥10. Lidui Park station is a 10-minute walk from the Dujiangyan scenic area entrance. This is by far the easiest, fastest, and cheapest option. Trains run every 15–30 minutes from approximately 06:06 to 22:50.
| Factor | Best Option |
|---|---|
| Fastest & easiest | Metro to Xipu → S-train to Lidui Park (30–40 min total, ~¥15) |
| Cheapest | Same route — it's already incredibly cheap |
| With Mount Qingcheng | Train to Qingchengshan station (30–40 min, ¥10–15) |
| By bus | Chadianzi or other coach stations (1–2 hrs, ¥15–35) |
Dujiangyan (都江堰) is a 2,200-year-old irrigation system and UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 50 km northwest of Chengdu. Combined with nearby Mount Qingcheng (青城山), it makes for an easy and rewarding day trip.
Compare Your Options
| Method | Cost | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metro + S-train to Lidui Park | ¥10–18 | 30–50 min | Best choice; walks to scenic area |
| Metro + S-train to Dujiangyan Station | ¥10–18 | 30–50 min | Backup; needs taxi/bus to scenic area |
| Coach bus from Chadianzi | ¥15–35 | 1–2 hrs | Slower; subject to traffic |
| DiDi / taxi | ¥100–150 | 45–60 min | Door-to-door but more expensive |
Option 1: Intercity Train via Xipu (Recommended)
Why Xipu is special
Xipu Railway Station (犀浦站) is China's first cross-platform metro-to-railway transfer hub. Chengdu Metro Lines 2 and 6 connect directly to the Chengdu–Dujiangyan Intercity Railway in the same building. You take the metro, walk across the platform (or upstairs), and board an intercity train.
Step-by-step
-
Take Chengdu Metro Line 2 or Line 6 to Xipu Station (犀浦站). From Tianfu Square in the city center, Line 2 takes about 31 minutes. Metro fare is ¥5–8.
-
Transfer to the intercity railway. Follow signs for "成灌铁路" (Chengdu–Dujiangyan Railway) or "城际列车" (intercity train). The transfer takes about 5 minutes on foot, but allow 15 minutes for railway security screening.
-
Board a train to Lidui Park Station (离堆公园站). This is the station you want. Look for trains with destination "离堆公园" (Liduigongyuan).
- Travel time: 23–40 minutes depending on stops
- Fare: ¥5–10 (soft seat / second class)
- Frequency: Every 15–30 minutes during daytime
- First train from Xipu: Around 06:06–07:06
- Last train back from Lidui Park: Around 21:14–21:55
-
Exit at Lidui Park Station and walk. Take Exit D. You will emerge at Yangtianwo Square (仰天窝广场), with its famous giant reclining panda sculpture. Cross the road, walk through Guanxian Ancient Town (灌县古城) via Xuanhua Gate (宣化门), and continue to the South Bridge (南桥) and the Dujiangyan scenic area South Gate. Total walk: about 10 minutes.
[!TIP] You can use the Tianfutong (天府通) app QR code or a physical transit card to tap on and off these suburban trains — no advance ticket needed. Otherwise, buy tickets on 12306.cn or the 12306 app with your passport.
Lidui Park vs. Dujiangyan Station — Don't Get Confused
There are two railway stations serving the Dujiangyan area:
| Lidui Park (离堆公园站) ⭐ | Dujiangyan (都江堰站) | |
|---|---|---|
| Distance to scenic area | ~500 m — 10-min walk | ~6 km — needs taxi/bus |
| Location | City center, underground | Suburban area |
| Frequency | ~20/day | More frequent |
| Best for | Tourists | Backup if Lidui Park sells out |
Always search for "离堆公园" (Liduigongyuan) when booking. If tickets are sold out (possible on holidays), Dujiangyan Station is a fine fallback — just budget an extra ¥15–20 and 15 minutes for a taxi into town.
Option 2: Coach Bus
Long-distance buses run from Chengdu to Dujiangyan from several stations:
- Chadianzi Bus Station (茶店子客运站): Metro Line 2, Chadianzi stop. Buses to Dujiangyan take about 1–1.5 hours and cost ¥15–35.
- Buses run frequently throughout the day, but the train is faster, cheaper, and more comfortable.
The bus is only worth considering if you are already staying near Chadianzi or if train tickets are completely sold out during a major holiday.
Returning to Chengdu
- Trains from Lidui Park to Xipu run until approximately 21:14–21:55. Since April 2026, two fixed evening services operate in each direction, making it possible to stay for the South Bridge night view and return the same evening.
- The journey back to Xipu takes 23–40 minutes. From Xipu, take Metro Line 2 or 6 back to your hotel.
- If you miss the last train, a DiDi back to central Chengdu costs approximately ¥100–150.
Combining with Mount Qingcheng (青城山)
If you have a full day, you can combine Dujiangyan with Mount Qingcheng, a sacred Taoist mountain:
- The same intercity railway continues from Dujiangyan to Qingchengshan Station (青城山站) in about 10 minutes (¥5).
- From Qingchengshan station, take bus Dujiangyan 101 or a taxi to the mountain gate (~10 minutes).
- A common itinerary is: Morning at Dujiangyan → lunch in Dujiangyan city → afternoon at Mount Qingcheng → train back to Chengdu.
- Note: This is a full day — both sites deserve 2–3 hours each. If you prefer a relaxed pace, do them on separate days.
[!NOTE] Mount Qingcheng has two sections: Front Mountain (前山, developed, with temples and cable car) and Back Mountain (后山, wilder hiking). Most first-time visitors go to Front Mountain.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Booking to Dujiangyan Station instead of Lidui Park. Dujiangyan Station is 6 km from the scenic area in a suburban area. Lidui Park Station drops you right in the old town, a 10-minute walk from the entrance.
-
Missing the last train back. Evening services are less frequent. Check the return schedule on 12306 when you arrive at Lidui Park, and set a reminder for when you need to head back.
-
Not allowing time for railway security. Xipu has airport-style security for intercity trains. Arrive 15 minutes before your train, especially on weekends and holidays.
-
Trying to do too much in one day. Dujiangyan + Mount Qingcheng is doable but rushed. If you want to hike Back Mountain or take your time, plan an overnight stay.
-
Forgetting your passport. You need ID for train travel in China. Foreigners must carry their passport for intercity trains, even short ones.
