How to Get from Hangzhou to Wuzhen by Public Transport (2026)
Quick Answer
You have two main options: a direct bus from Hangzhou to Wuzhen (~1.5–2 hours, ¥31–55), or a high-speed train from Hangzhou East to Tongxiang Station (~19–30 min, ¥22–50) plus bus K282 to Wuzhen (~50 min, ¥2–5). The train + bus combo is faster; the direct bus requires no transfers.
| Factor | Best Option |
|---|---|
| Fastest | High-speed train to Tongxiang + taxi (~50 min total) |
| Best value | Train + K282 bus (~1.5 hrs, ~¥25–55) |
| Easiest (no transfers) | Direct bus from Jiubao Coach Center (~1.5–2 hrs, ¥31–40) |
| Best For | All visitors combining Hangzhou with a water town |
Wuzhen (乌镇) is about 80 km north of Hangzhou in Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province. It is one of China's most famous and beautifully restored water towns, divided into the larger, lantern-lit Xizha (West Zone) and the more residential Dongzha (East Zone).
[!IMPORTANT] There is no "Wuzhen Railway Station." The nearest high-speed rail station is Tongxiang Station (桐乡站), approximately 27 km from Wuzhen.

Option 1 — High-Speed Train + K282 Bus (Recommended)
Step-by-step
-
Get to Hangzhou East Railway Station (杭州东站). Take Hangzhou Metro Line 1, 4, 6, or 19 to Hangzhou East Station. This is the main high-speed rail hub with the most frequent departures.
-
Buy a train ticket to Tongxiang Station (桐乡站). Book through Trip.com, 12306, or at the station. Bring your passport.
- G-trains: about 19–30 minutes, second class fares vary by train (typically ¥22–50)
- D-trains: about 27 minutes, slightly cheaper
- Trains run frequently (approximately hourly) throughout the day.
[!NOTE] Some trains from Hangzhou Station (杭州站) also stop at Tongxiang, but Hangzhou East has far more options.
-
Arrive at Tongxiang Station. Exit and find the bus stop for Bus K282 (K282路) outside the station square.
-
Take Bus K282 to Wuzhen Bus Station (乌镇汽车站).
- Duration: approximately 45–60 minutes (29.7 km)
- Fare: ¥2 (some sources report ¥5; have small cash ready)
- Frequency: every 20–40 minutes from approximately 07:25 to 21:40 (fixed schedule; check locally)
-
Transfer to Bus K350 to reach Xizha Scenic Area:
- Duration: 10–15 minutes
- Fare: ¥2
- Runs every 5–10 minutes from 06:10 to 17:30, with night service until ~22:00.
A taxi from Wuzhen Bus Station to Xizha costs about ¥15–20 and takes 5 minutes.

[!TIP] For maximum speed and convenience, take a taxi or DiDi from Tongxiang Station directly to Wuzhen Xizha. It costs about ¥80–100, takes 25–35 minutes, and eliminates both bus transfers. For 2–3 people, this is excellent value.

| Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport | Airport bus to Wuzhen | ¥42–60 | ~110 min |
- Drop-off: Wuzhen Bus Station (then K350 or taxi to Xizha), or directly at Xizha for the Wulin Square service.
- The Jiubao Coach Center is accessible via Hangzhou Metro Line 1 (Coach Center Station / 客运中心站).
- The Wulin Square (武林广场) bus is especially convenient if you are staying near West Lake — it drops you directly at Xizha with no transfers.
[!NOTE] Bus schedules and fares change frequently. Verify departure times at the bus station or on Trip.com/ChinaBusGuide before your trip.
Option 3 — Train + Taxi
If you want the fastest door-to-door public transport option:

Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Looking for a "Wuzhen Station." The high-speed railway station is Tongxiang (桐乡), not Wuzhen. You must transfer to a bus or taxi for the last 27 km.
-
Forgetting the K350 transfer. K282 takes you to Wuzhen Bus Station, not directly to Xizha. You need Bus K350 or a taxi for the final leg.
-
Underestimating the K282 bus time. The bus covers 30 km with many local stops and can take up to 60 minutes. This is not an express shuttle.
-
Choosing the wrong Hangzhou bus station. Jiubao Coach Center has the most frequent buses but is far from West Lake. If you are staying near the lake, the Wulin Square direct bus to Xizha is much more convenient.
-
Missing the last bus back. If you are doing a day trip, check the last K282 and last return bus when you arrive. Wuzhen Xizha is open until 22:00, but public transport back to Hangzhou ends earlier.
-
Only visiting Xizha and skipping Dongzha. Xizha is stunning but heavily restored. Dongzha has more authentic local life. A combined ticket costs ¥190 and is good value if you have a full day.
Tickets & Reservations
- Xizha: ¥150 per person; open 09:00–22:00
- Dongzha: ¥110 per person; open 07:00–18:00 (summer) / 07:00–17:30 (winter)
- Combined ticket: ¥190
- Book at the entrance or in advance on Trip.com or the official Wuzhen WeChat mini-program.
- A free shuttle bus runs between Dongzha and Xizha during operating hours.
