How to Get There

The park is located in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. You can fly directly to Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport (DYG) from major Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Changsha. Alternatively, take a high-speed train to Zhangjiajie West Station.

From airport to park: ~40 minutes by taxi (¥80–120) or airport shuttle bus
From train station: ~30 minutes by taxi or public bus to the forest park entrance

1. Yuanjiajie (袁家界) — The Avatar Mountains

This is where director James Cameron found inspiration for the floating mountains. The Southern Sky Column (南天一柱) was officially renamed "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain." Arrive early to avoid crowds and catch the best light.

2. Tianzi Mountain (天子山)

Named after a local Tujia leader who called himself "Son of Heaven." The peaks here are more spread out and dramatic, especially at sunrise. Key viewpoints include Helong Park and Imperial Brush Peak.

3. Golden Whip Stream (金鞭溪)

A 5.7 km peaceful walk along a crystal-clear stream, flanked by bizarre rock formations. Perfect for a relaxed afternoon. Watch for wild macaques — keep your food hidden!

4. Yellow Stone Village (黄石寨)

A plateau surrounded by cliffs with 360° panoramic views. Take the cable car up and walk the loop trail on top.

5. Ten Mile Gallery (十里画廊)

A scenic valley with formations resembling a traditional Chinese ink painting. You can walk or take a mini tourist train.

Best Time to Visit

April–June and September–November offer the best weather. Autumn (Oct–Nov) has the clearest skies and most dramatic cloud-sea views. Summer is hot and crowded (Chinese school holidays). Winter can be magical with snow-covered peaks but some paths close.

⚠️ Warning: Avoid Chinese national holidays (May 1–5, Oct 1–7) at all costs. The park can receive 50,000+ visitors per day during these periods.
